Hey all, and welcome to the halfway point of this little challenge I’ve gotten myself into. If you’re just jumping in, you can catch up on where I started with week 1 and week 2. I think it’s safe to say this might have been the most productive week of my 6 total in the ORC. And most definitely the most expensive (oops). Some serious progress is being made over here, so let’s get to it!

Paint!

I am SO relieved to say that I think we made the exact right decision on the perfect white paint for this cozy neutral bedroom in the works.

Well it’s week two of the One Room Challenge, and I am dreaming up a few more ideas than I originally intended for our bedroom makeover! If you missed it, I decided to give our room some much-needed attention and am participating in the ORC, you can catch up on week 1 here. It has been so awesome already seeing what the other participants are dreaming up, stealing some tips from talented bloggers and designers, and the support from everyone is such great motivation!

So, what have I been doing this week?

ORC: Cozy Neutral Bedroom Week 1!

orc-cozy-neutral-bedroom-week-1

Hellooo fall, chilly weather/chili weather, cardigans 24/7 and new seasons of all of our favorite TV shows! Also, driving to and from work in the dark, cuddling on the couch and dreaming big about finishing starting all of those house projects that we’ve had on the to-do list for about 3 years now. Seriously, Jesse just brought it to my attention that we closed on our house 3 years ago this week (yipes!)

We took a nice little getaway last weekend and stayed in Estes Park, CO to see the changing aspens, enjoy the cool weather and the scenery a short drive away from home. I’m fortunate to have a free house to stay in (thanks Dad), so we took our dog and some food with us and really spent most of our time drinking wine in front of the fire and listening to the elk and coyotes just outside the back door. I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit that we also happened to enjoy a few (ok several) hours of HGTV while we were there. We do watch TV at home, but we don’t have cable and have limited access to HGTV, so it was sort of a guilty pleasure and a good way to relax. After a few episodes of Love It or List It and Property Brothers, I started thinking about how our bedroom could really use a makeover. That and the office. Oh, and not to mention that second bathroom that we are still planning to put in downstairs.

Hard to Kill Houseplants for the Wannabe Housewife

hard-to-kill-houseplants-for-the-wannabe-housewife

I haven’t always had a green thumb. In all honesty, I still don’t. But I’m making progress.

One time, when I was still newish to Wyoming and still bacheloretting it up, one of my older and wiser friends casually asked if my hyper-ass dog Reagan tries to eat plants.

I responded: “I don’t know, I don’t have any plants.”

At which point, my friend enlightened me to the fact that I was living as some kind of plantless MONSTER (little did I know).

Ah, to be young and dumb.

But look at me now! All married, and mature, and owner of houseplants. I’m a regular old housewife. Or so I would have you think.

Not all of the plants that I’ve owned in my robust adult life have survived. BUT. Some have. They really do make a home feel more cozy, and they clean the air! So here are some of my tried-and-true, hard-to-kill favorites!

Some blogger love + Friday Five – Summer’s Halfway Over?!

Oh hey, mid-July. I didn’t see you there.

Is anyone else shocked at how quickly this summer is flying by? I haven’t blogged in almost a month (the horror!), but don’t get your panties all in a bunch. I’m still here.

I’ve also been feeling slightly overwhelmed and discouraged by blogging at times. If you’re a blogger too, you know – it’s hard. Really hard. Especially if you have an actual day job where you may work 50 hours a week, or, I don’t know… kids (I hear they’re a lot of work too). Everything there is to learn, the social media, SEO and promotion, the pressure to post great content, and OFTEN, gain followers and traffic can be just plain exhausting. That’s why I found it pretty refreshing to hear some different perspectives from Hannah and Kristen. Two of my favorite bloggers, both very successful, and with different stories to tell. Their situations may be quite a bit different from mine, but bottom line, they reminded me that it’s OK to do this because I enjoy it. I also have a big blog crush on Lindsay. I love reading her blog because it’s genuine, fun, and HILARIOUS. Just try to read this stuff and not laugh. So I’m trying to remember to just do me. Blogging can be crazy time-consuming, but I think it’s more important that I’m having fun – even if I only have a few readers – than to stress out wishing that I could do more and make money and become famous.

Now enough with the sappy stuff. What the heck have we been up to?! Glad you asked.
